ForCity wins big at Berlin Tech Festival 2018 for the Startup Energy Transition

French Tech rising star ForCity was awarded first prize in the Intelligent grids, platforms and cyber security category at the Startup Energy Transition Award 2018 earlier this month. Founded with the aim of developing solutions to address the smart city challenges of tomorrow, ForCity also won over investors earlier this year and raised 8€ million for its first round.

When and how will our cities achieve their much-needed energy transition? Now that climate change has become a reality, how will our cities adapt to its impact? ForCity’s ground-breaking yet user-friendly simulation technology enables public authorities and business managers to visualize how their city could change over the next decades, and clearly convinced the jury.

First-hand access to powerful simulation technology

Urban environments are constantly changing and regulations bring unpredictable changes in consumption behavior. Network operators need long-term visibility before committing to considerable investments, yet they face real challenges when assessing their development potential.
By modelling an entire heat network on top of its cloud-based smart city simulation platform, ForCity’s District Heating and Cooling application provides decision-makers with first-hand access to powerful simulation technology for network expansion and densification.
While the SET pitch contest took place during the Tech Festival, the SET award ceremony took place on the next day, and the audience consisted mainly of BETD week attendees.

A ticket to international success

“We are extremely proud of this award which is a true recognition by an international jury made up of the public, academics and economic players in the energy world. In addition to the fact that we were selected among 400 candidates from 68 countries! What is particularly rewarding is the recognition of our innovative solution by the German Energy Agency (DENA), which we hope will open up doors for us in Germany, a priority market for ForCity. Now well established in 7 cities around France, we’ve also initiated ForCity’s international presence in Dubai & Hong Kong.  And, at the moment, we’re seeking the right German partner to innovate with us for the first instantiation in Germany, and thus bring digital technologies into the decision-making process for German cities.”
